Entrepreneurs team up to tackle mental health

Scottish businessman and mental health champion Michael Ellis has joined forces with social entrepreneur Alice Thompson to help promote mental health and wellbeing

When Michael set up Wellbeans Coffee, in Edinburgh, he was determined to give back to the community from day one by donating cash from each bag of coffee he sells.

Michael, 25, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Alice is now onboard as a non-executive director.

“Her achievements with Social Bite are inspirational as is her commitment to purpose driven businesses and I am sure that her knowledge and experience will be incredibly valuable to us as an organisation.”

“The entire ethos of Wellbeans revolves around community and nobody knows more about this sector than Alice.”

Edinburgh-based Michael has experienced his own personal issues with mental health so has an insight into the struggle millions face each day.

With part of the profits from the sale of their coffee, Wellbeans invests in mental health charities and initiatives that have a direct impact on communities across the country including the Scottish Association for Mental Health [SAMH].

Michael added: “We support SAMH because it is Scotland’s national mental health charity that works with young people and adults across more than 60 communities across the country.

“We are also keen to hear about other mental health programmes we can support,”

Alice Thompson said: “I’m incredibly excited to be working with Michael and Wellbeans Coffee.

“He’s shown fantastic enthusiasm and drive to grow the business. His honesty and transparency about his own experience with mental health is admirable and I believe that with my experience at Social Bite we will be able to make a real difference to a lot of people.”
